Pinball Wizard Wish
Wishes Can Come True
Date: 12-20-07 By: Julie Kaluzinski
FOX in Los Angeles partnered with the Make-A-Wish Foundation and U Can Do, Inc. to grant special wishes to children with serious illnesses this holiday season.
Ryan, a 10 year old boy with a rare disease, wish was to become a pinball wizard and his wish was granted. To watch the video of Ryan playing Stern's Spider-Man pinball machine, click here.
The owners of U Can Do, Inc., Gene Gulich and Ron Kochel, created a new way to play and control the flippers for people who aren't able to control the flippers how they are currently set up. Instead of the familiar flipper controls, large circular switches (like touch domed lights) are used. Players can use 1 or 2 hands. Also, for people who don't have the use of their hands can use their feet to control the game or for those who don't have use of anything below the neck, the switches can be tapped with a twitch of their head.
I thought that this was a touching holiday story and it just shows how much joy an arcade game can bring to someone.
