The World's Greatest Pinball Player for 2009 has been announced. Jorian Engelbrektsson of Sweden has finished #1 on the World Pinball Player Rankings and has been announced the champ by the International Flipper Pinball Assoication (IFPA).
Engelbrektsson is the first player in four years to claim the title of World's Greatest Pinball Player over Keith Elwin. Overall, Engelbrektsson won 50% of the events he played in, while placing in the top 4 at 77% of his 2009 events. He will be given his award at the IFPA 7 tournament to be held May 21-23, 2010, near Minneapolis.
IFPA also reported an increase of 70 unique events by pinball leagues and tournaments in 2009 from 2008. The association's player base has expanded from 4,500 at the end of 2008 to 6,700 this year with representatives from 27 countries.
